Beware of False Claims
When door knocking some of our candidates observed fliers from the Morrisville Republican Club Committee hanging on doors urging Republicans to write in the names of the two incumbents running for election in the 3rd Ward.
Let’s look at some of their claims:
“Oppose reducing the police department.”
This statement implies that our team is in favor of reducing the number of police. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our entire team of candidates is thrilled that Morrisville finally has the proper staffing for our police department (thank you, EIT). We remember many of the current Council members refusing to augment our department and harassing the former Police Chief at every Council meeting, refusing his pleas to hire more full-time officers and hindering his attempts to schedule his force efficiently.
“Approved paving program - using state dollars - not your taxes, to do ALL borough streets.”
Of course we want decent roads. We have always received this state money and it has always been used for our roads. This money is now being diverted to pay off a new 20-yr $1.6 mil loan that only covers HALF of the Borough, where the Council president and vice-president coincidentally reside. After 5 years, the rate is variable. The murkiness of this whole project is concerning. Our team believes that decisions of this magnitude deserve a solid plan with full discussion and public disclosure
“Reduced property taxes 8 mils while cutting wasteful spending.” “Want to reduce EIT.”
We don’t have room in this space to list all ways this Council has wasted taxpayer money. Property taxes were not lowered as a result of reformed spending or better budgeting, but because of EIT. If anything, current Council is spending recklessly as a result of the boosted revenue from the EIT. Reducing property taxes while reducing EIT are two opposing claims. See post on EIT.
“Support keeping the truck enforcement officer (with corporate donations and fines).”
Many on this Council are the ones who made it necessary to pull the truck enforcement officer off the streets because he was needed to fill in the shortage on the police department staff. What if corporate donations and fines dwindle?
“Will continue to pursue grants … for all our parks.”
We too support procuring grants for all parks. Grants are not free. They require tax dollars for professional fees and administrative resources, not covered by grants. Let’s put those resources to work in ways that improve ALL parks reasonably and benefit all.
This flier from the Morrisville Republican Club Committee distorts reality. BE TRUTHFUL with the people of Morrisville, both Democrats and Republicans. Both sides deserve better!
