Your Voice Team Keeping Its Campaign Promises

As the famous poem goes, “We have miles to go before we sleep” before we can fulfill all of our promises to our residents. Nine months after our election, however, we want to update you on the successes the Your Voice Team has achieved for our borough. We will also highlight what we feel is yet to be accomplished.

First up:

Our Historic Library

We have finally hired a library director, and our library is undergoing long overdue renovation.  We believe our team led the way in creating public awareness of the imminent danger of Morrisville losing state funding because we had no director. Through our podcasts, comments at council meetings, and news articles, we exposed the reluctance of our interim Borough Manager to post the position of library director.  As a part-time manager with little interaction with the community or Council, Jim Dillon was clearly unaware of the public’s passion and support for a library in our walking community.    Yes, there is a library in Yardley and one in Levittown, but they are not as accessible to all of our residents, our schools and day care facilities.

We applaud and thank our valiant and dedicated parttime staff for keeping the library afloat despite two years without a director, but the situation was untenable. We had also been given an ultimatum that we would lose state funding if we did not hire a director by September 1 of 2026.  Our team finally had to force a vote to request the Borough Manager to post the position of a library director.  And miraculously, we had a rare instance of a Council member voting with us. We are convinced that without this vote, our interim part-time Borough Manager would not have moved forward to staff the position.

We want to thank the dedicated library board members who worked with Mr. Dillon to find candidates, conduct interviews, and inform Council of the great work that our library was doing in spite of the absence of a director.

We have been accused of being political.  We agree. We are elected municipal leaders. It is our job to use the political process to do what is good for our residents.  Like it or not, Borough Council is a political body that must use the political process to govern.   All of us have our roles to play in ensuring that our Council makes decisions that positively impact the Borough.

And, yes, the library is undergoing a long overdue renovation, but the Borough owns the library and is responsible for its physical upkeep.  It is also important to note that the only reason Morrisville has the money to care for its properties is the EIT money which brings in about 2 million dollars per year.  We also feel it is ironic that some of the very Council members who are taking credit for improvements like library renovations, street paving, Manor Park playground, and the senior citizen parking lot voted against the EIT.

We welcome our new librarian and look forward to seeing the transformation of one of our historic treasures:  The Morrisville Library.
