Remember Morrisville…
Remember Morrisville - those currently in power fought every step to bring progress to Morrisville. They argued and bickered. They blocked and sabotaged.
· Remember when Helen Hlalol insisted that 7 full time police officers were all that were needed?
· Remember when current Council members picked at budgeted expenses, but now pass motions with NO dollar amount?
· Remember when Helen Hlalol had a Borough Committee whose only member was herself and she was allowed to speak to it on the dais?
· Remember when current Council members pettily grilled the Police Chief at every meeting?
· Remember when incumbents refused to consider a long-term plan to address dire road needs?
Current Council members still oppose the EIT but spend it with abandon, and are taking actions that will oblige the taxpayers to pay off large loans without a reliable revenue source.
They distort the truth - that state dollars will pay for all of our roads to be resurfaced, but fail to mention a $1.6 million 20-year loan was needed and it only covers HALF the Borough. Those state dollars have been received every year. This is not new money. In past years, it has been used to pay for plowing, repairs and other still-needed road expenses.
Let’s be honest about what is needed and how our money is spent. Candidates can’t be against the EIT, but crow about the reduction in property taxes. The reduction was NOT a result of better financial management, but a new revenue source - that the current incumbents OPPOSE. (Check their campaign literature).
Small communities with character are always successful when truly community driven. A few people acting like land barons, offering secret deals to buy and sell property, does not represent community wishes. Communities thrive when elected representatives are truthful and transparent about intentions and costs.
Elected leaders disbanding and ignoring civic groups they disagree with is a red flag. Shutting down meaningful public engagement should make citizens shudder. The people of Morrisville are too smart to be fooled by elected officials who spend more time promoting themselves and pursuing personal agendas than truly serving the community.
