Our library is in jeopardy of losing state funding (which hovers around $40,000 year). Our part time interim Borough Manager asked for three months to explore hiring a consultant.  He and the Council president determined that this option was too expensive.  The Borough has been given a deadline of September 1, 2026 to have a plan in place for hiring a library director, or we will lose our state funding and our federated status.

The Borough signed an agreement with the Bucks County Library System to hire a director so that we could receive state funding in 2026, but has not fulfilled its commitment to even post a Library Director position.  Without state funding, the Borough will be able to reduce library hours drastically, continue to understaff it, and fail to replenish our collection.  We have been without a Library Director for a year and a Children’s Librarian for nearly a year.

At the April Council meeting, the council voted 5-3 to request that the Borough Manager post the position by the May council meeting and begin the hiring process immediately thereafter.  The clock is ticking!!!

Do not be fooled by the false choice between police and the library that may be raised.  This is patently false.  There are sufficient funds in the library budget to hire a library director who can also assume the responsibilities of a children’s librarian.
