As promised, we’re debriefing the February Borough Council meeting with Council members Shawn Ratti, Peggy Walsh and Anna Langer. From major policy developments to concerns about transparency and public participation, this meeting covered a lot of ground.

On the positive side, the Borough reached a Memorandum of Understanding with the police department, and Council approved the 2026 road paving contract with a responsible funding path. Council also authorized the borough engineer to explore grant opportunities for expanded trail connections—potentially linking Morrisville’s riverfront, downtown, and park system to regional networks like the Circuit Trails and the East Coast Greenway—an initiative aimed at strengthening the local economy and enhancing public spaces.

However, the meeting also raised serious concerns about governance and public engagement. The episode discusses a troubling public comment incident in which a resident was gaveled down and removed from the meeting, questions about inconsistent enforcement of meeting rules, the restructuring and dissolution of long-standing Council committees, and the ongoing debate over when public comment should occur during meetings.

The conversation also touches on the need for working or agenda meetings to allow Council members more opportunity to ask questions, collaborate, and fully review materials before votes are taken. It’s a candid recap of the highs, the tensions and the broader conversation about transparency, respect and the future of civic engagement in Morrisville.
